Als antropoloog en theoloog houd ik mij bezig met vragen over de relatie tussen cultuur en religie. De betekenis van bekering en de aantrekkingskracht van evangelische en pinkerkerken in Nederland is het thema van mijn recentelijk afgeronde promotieonderzoek. Op 30 juni 2011 ben ik gepromoveerd (cum laude) op het proefschrift This is my Desire aan de Vrije Universiteit te Amsterdam. De Nederlandse samenvatting en de inhoudsopgave zijn online te lezen.
Naast mijn rol als onderzoeker ben ik docent op het terrein van culturele antropologie, antropologie van religie, interculturele communicatie, contextuele theologie, missiologie en sociologie.
As an anthropologist and theologian questions regarding the relationship between culture and religion are at the core of my research interests. The rapid expansion of global evangelical, charismatic and pentecostal movements in the context of the Netherlands has been the focus of my PhD research. On June 30th 2011 I defended my thesis on conversion in Dutch evangelical/Pentecostal churches called This is my Desire at the VU University Amsterdam. Furthermore, I have a great interest in new movements and expressions of faith within the broad spectrum of the Christian tradition – like the emerging church movement and the turn to monastic traditions.
Next to my work as a researcher, I enjoy teaching in the field of cultural anthropology, anthropology of religion, intercultural communication, contextual theology and sociology.
